KEEP HIGHLAND RURAL
Did you move to Highland for the wide open countryside, the summer sunsets over the lake, and the rolling green pastures dotted with grazing horses? I did. At night, my sons and I would walk to a nearby hill at the end of Addaleen to lay in the grass overlooking what was then the Tripp's horse farm. We'd gaze at the Milky Way and as they pointed excitedly at shooting stars, I'd wonder about their future (alas, can't see as many stars now). What earth would they inherit? Would the country and our lakeside paradise still remain by the time they grew up? Last night I attended a hearing on changes to Highland's Master Plan and I was impressed with how many other people repeated that refrain: "Keep our small town feel...save our old, historical buildings...shop local and support our businesses...protect our rural feel...". There were also new ideas that echoed my own hopes for Highland... (the rest of the article is on the blog)

Highland Recreation Area, Silo Field Trial Area, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Join ongoing efforts to restore this area to an open grassland. Volunteers will
be hauling and piling brush and stacking fire wood. Meet at the Silo Field
Trial Area parking lot off Livingston Road, between Pettibone Lake and Beaumont
Roads.
