SPRING IS HERE!
PLANT A TREE THIS SUNDAY AT DUCK LAKE PINES PARK!
Help beautify your community park, enjoy the company of others and be a good steward for local natural resources by participating in a tree planting workday this Sunday, April 27 from 10:00am to 12:00 noon. Two different planting activities will take place at Duck Lake Pines Park (behind Rite Aid) on Duck Lake Road, south of M59. There will be an activity for parents and children to plant pine tree seedlings in the natural area of the park. Bring a shovel, gloves, some newspapers and a water bucket. There will also be an activity for adults to plant bare root deciduous trees in the developed area of the park also at 10:00am. Bring a shovel, gloves, newspapers and a water bucket. All other planting materials will be available on site. There is no need to RSVP, just show up at 10:00am at the park. We should be able to complete the planting by approximately 12:00. Feel free to bring refreshments, snacks and enjoy the park.
COME GET A TREE AT THE HI-WHITE PARADE
The annual Hi-White Parade (the most delightful, hometown, kitschy parade I know of) will be the morning of Saturday, May 17th. The Highland Conservancy will be giving away white pine trees this year at our booth. We could use volunteers to march with us and help out at our booth. BUT, more importantly, mark your calendar to just come enjoy the parade at 10am in downtown Highland. It really is fabulous fun! If you wish to march with us, wed LOVE to have you bring your dog and meet us at 8am. Well even give your dog a t-shirt (and you, too) for marching with us. Well meet at the Church of the Nazarene near the entrance to Livingston Road off M-59 at 9am. Call Katheryn 248-887-4643 for more details.
EARTH DAY WAS GRAND
At earth day this past Sunday, the weather was awesome and we had over 100 children create scratch art at our booth. Many folks stopped by to join up, volunteer ideas or just chat. We purchased a kayak to give away (along with our co-sponsor Site Scape) as part of many other freebies that day. Even though I must admit I coveted the kayak, it was wonderful to see the joy on the winners face. Thanks to all who helped out!
