There are some exciting upcoming events coming up as the weather finally warms up:
FROG SURVEY TRAINING
Oakland County Parks needs volunteers to help with frog surveys. There will be a training session THIS Friday, April 4th from 7-9pm. Call 248-858-0704 to register. Short notice I know but Im already hearing those spring peepers and it could be a fun event.
HURON VALLEYS SECOND ANNUAL EARTH DAY!
The second annual Huron Valley Earth Day is coming up Sunday, April 20th from 1-6pm in Milford Central Park. The Highland Conservancy is proud to be a sponsor for the event and a cosponsor of some excellent music too! We will host art workshops for children, give away awesome free items and have loads of information at our booth. There will be food, games, live music, art workshops, free trees, and canoeing. So come out and meander around the park for a fun afternoon. Please check out this website for more information: www.hvedf.org
SPRING IS NEARLY HERE!
As you do your spring cleaning, check out an interesting HC blog article on getting rid of your clutter at www.highlandconservancy.typepad.com There are many ways to go a step further than just recycling. You can freecycle (just Google that one up), use cloth bags (better than paper or plastic), share outgrown clothes with other families
by the way, thanks to all those who have been commenting on the blog site. Its great to read your feedback.
Highlands Hazardous Waste Day
Highland's Hazardous Waste Day is Saturday, April 19th from 8:00am to noon by Highland Middle School. All kinds of materials will be accepted. For a complete list, check out the township website. Please carpool if possible because the township is charged almost $50 per car for this "freebie" - wow. Hope to see you there!
HIGHLAND OAKS GARLIC MUSTARD PULL
We hope to be pulling garlic mustard at Highland Oaks in May. Tentatively, this is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th from 12:30pm - 3:30pm. We will keep you posted if the time or date should change. We are eager to help clear this nasty invasive from the park and hope you will join us.
I HEAR THE PEEPERS IS IT SPRING YET?
Sincerely,
Katheryn Krupa, Editor
