The Highland Conservancy November 2007 E-Newsletter

Greetings and I hope you are all enjoying the brisk autumn weather. I know I
especially enjoyed the colorful fall leaves and my elementary students did too.
We made so many clay leaf bowls that I fear I’ll be loading and unloading the
kiln for weeks!

NEW HIGHLAND CONSERVANCY BLOG
The launching of the new blog has been a huge success! I am pleased at the
comments that are coming in and the number of hits already is astounding to me.
I hope you will take a moment, if you haven’t already, to check it out. Our
goal is to keep the material fresh and relevant so if you have ideas for
articles, or even wish to write one, please call or email me. We’ll do our best
to post it as soon as possible. I’m still learning after a quick crash course
from Mick Bell who created Highland-Live so I realize those are some big shoes
to fill! Thanks to those who have contributed so far!

CONSERVANCY CONNECTIONS
Our president, Jim Lloyd, is on the board of the Oakland Land Conservancy and
this new liaison has been a wonderful, learning experience for us. OLC is doing
awesome work protecting and preserving many acres of land and we are pleased to
have their expertise and assistance as we work on several upcoming land
conservation projects. New developments in the concept of wetlands mitigation
are just astounding and very exciting.

UPCOMING CONSERVATION EASEMENT PROJECTS
Currently we are focusing our efforts on two major sites and will start with an
inventory of the natural features and resources as we gather information for
formal presentations. As was the case with Highland Oaks, sometimes we aren’t
able to share as much information as we desperately wish we could, but we
promise to keep you posted as details are available.

Please contact Jim Lloyd at 248-887-3952 if you are interested or need more
information about preserving your property or that of family members.
Surprisingly, in many cases you can still live on your property, build on it and
will it to family members while still protecting its natural beauty through a
conservation easement. Please call Jim for more specific information.
